Learning to meditate with the PME System

The Greatest Story Ever Told, a 1965 American epic film, is a retelling of the Biblical account about Jesus of Nazareth, from gospels of the Nativity through to the Ascension. Jesus and all of the great wisdom teachers like Buddha, Muhammad, and many others have had some scriptural documentation bequeathed to the world for our benefit. Each historical spiritual teacher’s story is the Greatest story ever told in the eyes of their followers.

These spiritual figures are each important as the face of religions and spiritual movements that have manifested in their names. The stories of these prophets and teachers are of course used as validation of their religious teachings. It is a successful strategy that works as many of these movements and religions have survived for millennia.

I would argue that the Greatest spiritual story, has yet to heard by the vast majority of people. Very few know it and for those people who have heard it, each have heard a different version of it. It has an opaque teacher that most are not familiar with.

The disquieting part is that you may not have heard it either. It is the concept of the Hero’s Journey as described by mythologist Joseph Campbell in his book The Hero with a Thousand Faces. It is the story of your spiritual journey toward enlightenment.

The purpose of this series of blogs and podcasts is to inspire, teach, and instruct you on how to find the guide within. Hopefully we help you to learn the story of that in which you star, as the Hero on a journey of self-discovery.

There is no more important story to either you or the universe of Existence Consciousness. As Rumi the 7th century poet said, “Silence is the language of God, all else is poor translation.” Sitting in silence to eagerly learn what your higher-self, the universe, existence consciousness, God or whatever you choose to call it, has to say to you, in a language that needs no translation, is clearly a Hero’s Journey.

No one else can take the journey for you and no amount of knowledge imparted by others can prepare you for what you will learn. You can live your entire lifetime sitting on pillow and never grow tired of your unfolding truth, your story.

Your story is like no others because you are like no other. You have made a commitment to your journey no matter where it takes you. There will be happiness and joy, pain, and sorrow but it is the path in silence that leads you beyond all knowing to a greater reality. That Hero’s  journey cannot be adequately described to others, even with a “poor translation.”

Your story does not require a priest, a rabbi, a swami, or others. I will not say there are times when others, by invitation from you, may assist. Having an outside resource can add clarity or focus to the experiences you are having or provide a new technique that is helpful, but for the most part your story is an inside job.

We make a meager offering to shed light on some of the greater and lesser aspects of where your journey may take you. Perhaps one of these chapters will be a missing link you can explore to move your story along.  Other chapters may validate something you have already learned in your journey while others may inspire curiosity and take your practice in a new direction.

We have organized the chapters in this Learning to meditate with the PME System section in a particular order assuming  you know very little about meditation. Our community crosses all spectrums of experience, and you may already be aware of much of what is being taught here. I would only suggest that your read everything carefully as we use terminology differently than others. To that end I suggest pay close attention to the PME wisdom terms.

We will post as often as possible to keep you moving along. As you become familiar with the meditation section I suggest you continue to read blogs from the “ A chapter in the story of consciousness series” to continue to increase or challenge your own knowledge base.

The Author Frank Leonesio is also a Life and Meditation Coach. He is happy to offers a  free zoom call session to help you with meditation questions. Schedule an appoint here.
